Despite anti-Semitic laws, Hircsu remained in contact with the family. In, Germany invaded Hungary, and the family was forced to relocate to a yellow-star house. The Arrow Cross party came to power, and the mother was taken on a death March and died.
After receiving news that the two children were left alone, Hircsu decided she had to do something.
Anna purchased an apartment in an area where she would be unknown. She then forged papers to state that the Erdos children were her own. During this time, she also housed numerous other Jews. She participated in the foraging of documents, hiding of Jews, and illegal trafficking of Jews, all crimes that put her life at risk.
After the war, Anna helped connect the Erdos children to family in New Zealand. She also helped reunite the multiple other Jews she had rescued.
